Matthew Barker is a gifted gospel vocalist and worship leader dedicated to sharing the message of faith, hope, and redemption through song. Growing up in church, Matthew developed a deep respect for traditional gospel roots while embracing a powerful, contemporary vocal style. Known for his soulful delivery, he treats every stage as an altar and every song as a ministry. Matthew’s mission is simple: to use his God-given gift to uplift the brokenhearted, encourage the believer, and point every listener toward grace.
Like anyone, I’ve found myself in dark places without a clear path of escape. In my distress, I called on the Lord, and He was faithful. He has always rescued me.
I was raised in church. My biggest musical inspirations are my grandparents who traveled to sing and preach my entire life. Some other musical influences are, The Crabb Family, Marvin Sapp, my late cousin Jimmy Bridges, and my mother and father.
I started playing the saxophone in school by note. I switched to playing in church as an adult, and I can truly give the credit to God. On multiple occasions, I “accidentally” played a lick or two and know it was His guidance. I’ve now been playing for almost 27 years, and thoroughly enjoy playing for Jesus! I can play just about any genre of gospel music and love to experiment with new keys and new songs.
